About Me
Hello! I'm Jennifer Horne, a full-time Middle School Orchestra Director and tech enthusiast currently at one of the highest ranked Middle Schools in Virginia.
I'm an educator with 9 years of experience in a variety of public and private schools in PA, NJ, MD, and VA. I have my B.M. Bachelors in Music Education from Temple University and my M.M. Masters in Music Education from The University of the Arts.
I have always had a passion in life for two things, music and technology! Growing up, I could be found either practicing the violin for hours on end or behind a computer keyboard creating websites for my middle school teachers (as a middle school student).
In college, I always found a way to satisfy both my cravings for music and technology, and completed years of work studies assisting the Senior System Analyst of the music school at Temple University in offering technical support, computer lab monitoring, and website editing.
In my professional teaching career I have always been considered the unofficial go-to tech person, no matter what the content area! I've developed a deep understanding of how to use the Google GSuite for Education Apps to become super efficient and effective in the classroom, and how to creatively extend learning outside the classroom with Blended Learning techniques. I've taught General Music K-8, String Orchestra Grades 3-12, and Music Technology Grades 6-12. I've authored curriculum for General Music, Orchestra, and Music Technology classes. I've served on technology related committees including one for academic technology integration. I've presented professional development sessions on how to integrate GSuite tools into the classroom (specifically the music classroom) to help further differentiate and streamline instruction to best fit the needs of the individual student.
On my quest to learn more as a life-long-learner, I've recently become a Level 1 and Level 2 Certified Google Educator, and have passed my Trainer Assessment. My mission is to use this blog to help educators around the world (no matter what content they teach) to streamline the use of technology into their own classrooms and take ownership of it to help further connect with their students.
I hope the resources on this blog will help you become a more confident educator, and do what you do best, teach and inspire the minds of many!
